Modern vehicles have CAN-Bus wiring at the OBDII Socket, and many people assume that the E46 will, but none of the E46 models have CAN-Bus wires at the OBDII Socket. If you purchased an AiM Solo 2 DL with an OBDII cable, you will not be able to connect to the CAN-Bus network for the additional information, and only get power and ground to turn the Solo on.
This adapter is specifically designed to work in conjunction with theĀ E46 CAN-Bus Plug and Play Adapter, 2-pin DTM. The 2-pin DTM receptacle of this adapter will plug into the 2-pin DTM plug of the CAN-Bus Plug and Play Adapter, and then the two loose pins can be added to the stock E46 OBDII Socket. Therefore allowing you to obtain CAN-Bus information through the OBDII Socket, such as if using an OBDII cable from an AiM Solo 2 DL as mentioned above.
Installation Instructions:
- Remove the OBDII Socket from the cover that is clipped onto the lower dash panel by sliding the blue, black or gray, clip on the back side of the cover (where the wires exit the OBDII Socket). Then from the front of the cover push the OBDII Socket out of cover.
- Disengage the secondary lock of the OBDII Socket by inserting a small flat head screw driver between the gray slider and the black OBDII Socket itself (near Pin 8 & 16) until the gray slide unclips and slides outwards about 1/8″.
- Reference existing pins for the correct orientation and insert the two loose pins of this adapter into the rear of the OBDII Socket as follows:
- Yellow/Red (CAN-High) to Pin 6 of the OBDII Socket
- Yellow/Brown (CAN-Low) to Pin 14 of the OBDII Socket
- With pins fully inserted and clipped into place, push the gray secondary lock back in until it clips into the locked position and reinstall the OBDII Socket into the cover from the rear, then slide the blue, black or gray, clip to secure the socket into the cover.
- Safely route and secure the wires of this adapter from the OBDII Socket to the Plug and Play Adapter at the Steering Angle Sensor, keeping the wires away from the steering column and pedals.
- Plug the 2-pin DTM Receptacle of this adapter into the 2-pin DTM Plug of the CAN-Bus Plug and Play Adapter (assuming this is already installed).
