Cartek offers two different battery isolators; the GT version is designed for OEM style applications with the stock ECU, while the XR version is designed for applications with an aftermarket ECU or PDM.
The Cartek GT Battery Isolator is a small, lightweight, solid state electrical master kill switch that is a highly reliable alternative to the traditional mechanical or electro/mechanical master kill switches.
Compared to traditional mechanical or electro/mechanical master kill switches, the Cartek Solid State Battery Isolator GT is fully sealed against water and dirt, completely resistant to shock and vibration, and has no moving parts that can jam or wear out causing arcs and the potential to be arc welded in the closed (ON) position; in accordance with FiA safety regulations.
How it Works:
- Features two electronic isolation circuits controlled by microprocessors incorporating various safety systems including over-temperature and over-current monitoring.
- Designed to simplify installation featuring built in alternator run-down protection, thereby saving time and reducing build costs by not requiring any additional wiring or components.
- The battery isolator is mounted near the battery, reducing cabling and offering additional isolation, and works as a switch between the battery negative cable and the chassis itself.
- Multiple activation switches* are remotely mounted using lightweight wiring, easily allowing you to have a kill switch in multiple locations to comply with any ruleset.
- The battery isolator is first turned on by the driver pressing the internal button causing the integrated LED to illuminate. Once turned ON, the isolator:
- Connects the negative battery cable to the chassis, from the isolator battery negative stud to the isolator frame being securely bolted to the chassis.
- Provides +12VDC output on the isolator ECU or IGN stud, using the +12VDC source that is connected to the isolator battery positive stud.
- The battery isolator is then activated by pressing any of the internal or external switches. Once ACTIVATED, the isolator:
- Disconnects the negative battery cable from the chassis, isolating the battery and cutting power to all circuits of the vehicle.
- Stops providing +12VDC output on the ECU or IGN stud, which when wired correctly, causes the engine to stop and prevents it from running off of the alternator.
