BMW E36 Plug and Play Rain Light Wire Harness

Our preferred method of installing a rain light is with it’s own dedicated circuit and switch so that the rain light is only on when you turn it on. However, in many cases it will be fine to run the rain light off of the marker lights, where the rain light will be switched on when the marker lights are on. In this scenario the rain light can always be unplugged if you were to run a dry night race where you’ll need your lights on but no rain light. Note, this could be an issue if you were in the middle of an endurance race and where the dedicated rain light switch would be ideal.

This BMW E36 Plug and Play Rain Light Wire Harness is designed to plug in at the left tail light only* (as the pinout is different between the right and left tail light connectors), and requires functioning rear marker lights and brake lights. The rain light wiring is then intended to be routed up the c-pillar and drop through a hole near the third brake light on the parcel shelf such that the wiring will droop from the parcel shelf to the trunk lid, allowing the trunk lid to be fully opened without having to unplug the rain light.

Pair this plug and play rain light wire harness with either the Lifeline FiA 8874-2019 Rain Light or Cartek FiA 8874-2019 Rain Light while also selecting the optional Deutsch 3-pin DTM Receptacle will allow you to install either of these rain lights into an E36 chassis without doing any electrical work.

Be sure to add any rain light adapters to control how the rain light will function.
